elematrix

Elematrix exemplifies the relationship between science and art in the imaging of form, harnessing the unique quality of the digital medium, that of process, picturing science, producing art. The work combines image based motion tracking with computational simulation of natural phenomena to create a continuous gestural, impressionistic interaction. Each simulation relates to particular material qualities of the four elements earth, fire, water and air. The combination and composition of simulation ‘cells’ selected from the ‘matrix’ transforms slowly over time to form a ‘display plane’ in which visual forms penetrate and dissolve in apparent substance.

Elematrix was a collaborative public artwork by Tessa Elliott and studiofish, commissioned by @Bristol for installation in the Explore science experience.
